Braided Bread / Challah with Candied Papaya Chunks - Eggless #BreadBakers

      For this month’s Bread Baker’s , The theme chosen by Gayathri of Gayathri’s cookspot was Braided Bread.

  I chose to make this five strand Braided bread with candied Papaya chunks . I used the candied papaya chunks to make it more colourful.

 Candied Papaya chunks is known in our country as Tutti –Frutti , I like munching it. It is used in breads , cakes and cookies. It can be homemade or store bought.

-->
 Challah is one type of braided bread. Challah is a Braided , celebratory , Jewish  bread. Jews makes challah every Friday and for celebrations. It was the main bread for Sabbath Dinner.

Requirements :

All purpose Flour – 4 cup
Active dry Yeast – 2 ½ tbs
Sugar – 4 tbs
Salt – 1 tsp
Butter – 2 tbs
Luke warm milk – ½ cup
Luke warm Water – 1 ½ cup
Candied Papaya Chunks ( Tutti Frutti )  – 1 cup

Method :

In a large bowl mix together the flour , yeast , sugar and salt.

Add the warm milk and water , mix well.

Transfer to the counter and knead for 15 minutes or till the dough becomes soft.

Add the butter and tutti - frutti and knead again for five minutes.

Place the dough in a oiled bowl and cover with cling wrap . Let it double in volume.

Divide the dough into five equal parts to make five strand braid.

Roll each part into strands of equal length.

-->
Connect the five strands at one end and spreading the other ends.  From left number the strands 1, 2, 3, 4 ,5 . Then place strands 1 over 3, 2 over 3 and 5 over 2. Repeat until the ends of the strands , then pinch the tips together to seal.

Transfer the braided bread to baking tray and brush with melted butter. I spread few Tutti frutti on top.

Let the bread for second rise for about 30 minutes.

Bake in a preheated oven for 40 minutes @ 180*C.

Let the bread cool and slice.

Braided Bread with Candied Papaya Chunks is ready to serve.
